In southern Rio de Janeiro there are lots of hidden beaches, which deserve all the effort to be discovered. Some have access by boat, others by easy/hard trails – breathtaking paths through the rainforest. Sometimes, you can see the ocean surrounded by the green vegetation or a dense forest leading you to pleasant waterfalls, where you can renew your energies.

Curaçao was my first trip to the Caribbean. I was expecting to get into a small island, tropical, full of palm tree, several beaches... then I faced a huge oil refinery in an island with desertic vegetation!

I went to Piriápolis in Uruguay because of the whisky. Not the drink, but the movie directed by Juan Pablo Rebella and Pablo Stoll released in 2004. Part of the plot takes place here, in this beach between Punta Del Este and Montevidéo: the story of Jacobo´s lonely life and the troubled relationship with his brother Herman and his employee Marta, to whom he makes an unexpected proposal during the visit of a relative from Brazil.

Near to Barcelona there is a place with Roman Empire ruins. The picture shows an ancient amphitheater with the blue ocean behind. Today it is a museum for roman sculptures, which gives the impression of come back in time or like be in a movie scenery.

In the 90's I discovered Pinheira and I became a fan. It's a place for meet friends and enjoy hours resting on the sand. Among mountains and green sea, who sits on the beach has the view of Florianópolis island, besides de warm water, tranquility and nature. There are two beaches: Baixo and Cima. The photo shows Baixo beach in the early morning hours when fishermen come back from work bringing thousand of gulls in search of food. At the end of the Cima beach is the beginning of a beautiful 2 hours trail to Guarda do Embaú beach.

Sarasota is a beautiful tourist destination with great beaches and leisure options. However, as in every American city, you do nothing without a car and I was tired of driving and parking. So, I decided to take a bus or taxi – which did not work out well. In the US if you do not know the schedule of the buses, it means you will spend the whole day in desert bus terminals in the middle of nowhere, waiting for something to happen.

Jericoacoara, one of the most peaceful beaches I have ever been to, was considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world by The Washington Post (USA). Besides the lagoons with clear water, the quiet sea and huge dunes, there are many tour options that make it a great place to know.

One of the most beautiful tours in this historical city is a schooner ride on Paraty Bay. Turtles, colored fish, exuberating green areas, warm and clear water are part of the package. Some say the water temperature is usually colder, but for me it was perfect. We took the opportunity to take many pictures and go scuba diving.

In the 7 days before Easter happens the Tourism Week in Uruguay. A good time to know this country so different and hospitable. The photo shows the way to Cabo Polonio, a beach where only 4x4 trucks can drive above dunes.
