This year I traveled to a place that has been in my plans for a long time. Everyone who has been there told me “You are going to love Paraty!” They were right; I will go again many times.

In southern Rio de Janeiro there are lots of hidden beaches, which deserve all the effort to be discovered. Some have access by boat, others by easy/hard trails – breathtaking paths through the rainforest. Sometimes, you can see the ocean surrounded by the green vegetation or a dense forest leading you to pleasant waterfalls, where you can renew your energies.

A jeep ride through the rainforest, in the National Park of Serra da Bocaina, is a great option if you do not have your own car in Paraty. You can spend a whole day in waterfalls, stills and forests. After being on a high from tasting cachaças and liqueurs, a swim in cold waters and another still and more waterfalls. Pure adrenalin!

Wandering around the streets in the Historical Center of Paraty means you will surely find good restaurants with a colonial vibe. And so I did every day, I would go for a walk and stop somewhere that grabbed my attention. On the main avenue there are lots of more affordable restaurants, but I ended up being caught up by the vibe in the cobblestone streets with dimmed lights.

One of the most beautiful tours in this historical city is a schooner ride on Paraty Bay. Turtles, colored fish, exuberating green areas, warm and clear water are part of the package. Some say the water temperature is usually colder, but for me it was perfect. We took the opportunity to take many pictures and go scuba diving.

Many strange tribes in the street carnival of Paraty, but Bloco da Lama was the most bizarre. Unrecognizable people, filled of mud from head to toe, in some we could see only de white from their eyes and teeth (everything else was gray), others carried props like rags, skulls, vines, flowers and fantasies. After they play in the mangrove of Jabaquara beach they go distributing happiness and creativity through the streets of Paraty to the Historic Center. It was a very funny. experience.
