Barra do Chui

Whoever goes to Rocha - Uruguay, finds several options of leisure and accommodation - starting in CHUY, great for shopping spree in the freeshops and for those who like gambling. On the Brazilian side there is BARRA DO CHUI, a beach with rock formations and a lighthouse. Crossing the border, there is FORTE SAN MIGUEL with great architecture and a museum.

Going along route 9 there is LA CORONILLA, next to PARQUE SANTA TERESA, pretty small and with a big hotel – I go there because of the butchery and the market. On the other side of the route, there is LAGUNA NEGRA, where you can have a boat ride and, for those who enjoy trails, it is worthwhile finding the hidden beaches. I have never been to such a quiet and peaceful place

Right after Playa Grande, comes PUNTA DEL DIABLO with accommodations for all budgets. A little farther there is CABO POLÔNIO with dunes reaching 70m high and the lighthouse surrounded by sea wolves. This beach is quite inhospitable, but the atmosphere is unique. To get there, all cars should be parked 7 km before and the only transportation is the 4x4 double-deck trucks, it feels like a roller coaster. There is no running water or energy at the beach, only boilers and candles. Even though, it is a very appreciated Uruguayan spot. In the summer, both beaches are crowded with tourists, enjoying the parties and the good restaurants.
